Battle Ax Rd is 3-4 miles from HCA off of Deerfield Road.

China Gulch Rd is about a mile from HCA off of HWY 385.

Silica Sand Mines


The Silica Sand Mines provided sand for the Deerfield Dam.


Trail 6021 off of ditch creek road. Use Battle Ax Rd entrance.

Splash Points


After the rain or as snow melts, a creek runs in and out of this trail about 8 times making it a perfect trail to cool off and get wet. Even when the creek dries up it’s a beautiful trail with tall trees on either side.

Pactola Lake


Pactola Lake is the largest reservoir in the Black Hills of South Dakota, United States. Facilities include a marina, improved swimming beach, campgrounds and group campground on the south shore, campgrounds and a handicapped fishing path on the north shore, and various picnic and overlook areas.


U.S. Route 385 north from Hill City, South Dakota, Sheridan Lake, and Three Forks or south from Lead and Deadwood; or via the Rimrock Highway (also known as SD Highway 44), from Rapid City, South Dakota.

Sheridan Lake


Sheridan Lake, a reservoir, is located on Spring Creek in Pennington County, South Dakota. Facilities include a marina, improved swimming beach, campground and group campground on the North Shore; campgrounds and swimming beach on the South Shore; and various picnic and overlook areas. The dam across Spring Creek is very small and accessible only on foot.


U.S. Route 385 north from Hill City, South Dakota and Three Forks or south from Lead and Deadwood, or through Sheridan Lake Drive.

Deerfield Lake


Along with providing irrigation and recreation such as ice fishing and ice skating, the reservoir also supplements the municipal water supply of Rapid City, South Dakota and for the nearby Ellsworth Air Force Base.
